Re: A defense of "anti-intellectualism"
If you want to fix anti-intellectualism, you first need to fix intellectualism and return it to its roots of dispassionate exploration, commitment to truth over all else and bending processes to find truth rather than bending truth to fit (politicized) processes, and return to great, foundational humility that even the press could not overplay into hubris.
I like this quote.
Strangely enough, the conclusion I came up with this very weekend, was understanding on a more complex level, that "bending truth to fit" is exactly what I am witnessing in my life.
I ask myself, what part of this equation am I guilty of?
I have always maintained that we must be honest above all else, and put it on the table so that we may know how to proceed.
I feel at times like the Lone Ranger. I see things from the tip of a double edged sword. I know what to do...but when it comes to others, I bide my time waiting for them to catch up to my raw observations...and then I wonder.."Who made me GOD?"
But, and it is a big butt, I am not all that.
