The "charge" Rob was making was answering something with sarcasm and meaningless statements instead of an actual refutation of the premise. You can't "refute" it because it isn't a "charge" requiring proof, it's simply a description of what's right there. In fact, this post is responding to another prime example.
What happened in January is that the Republicans and the conservatives were lambasted after the Geffords shooting for their "violent rhetoric," the prime example of which was a map on Palin's website showing "targeted" districts with crosshairs. The gist of it was that Palin's violent imagery inspired the shooter.
This insanity went on here and in the media for weeks, until it became glaringly obvious that the shooter basically had no politics, and if he had beliefs they were not conservative ones. That, and the only actual examples of political violent rhetoric on other issues kept coming from the Left in the following months. Numerous examples. I could pull a pageful just from the Wisconsin flap. In fact, if I recall, I think I did.
As with many, many other issues where reality turns out not to match the agenda, the "civility" meme was quickly scrapped, and to most liberals it now never happened at all. The "baby duck" brain in action: Every day is a brand new day, and nothing we did or said yesterday matters.
