I don't give a flying about Keith Cowing's profession, or whether that makes his opinion carry more weight tha anyone else's who has ever posted to Space, Off Topic or Current Events. If self-importance were lighter than air, his ego would resemble the Hindenburg - it's already been proven to be as inflammable.

No matter whether Al or Justin moderated them and no matter which hunk of hardware hosted them (or who owned the hardware!), the most important unwritten bylaw of all of the incarnations of these boards has been

CIVILITY

- except for here, of course, which Justin created (the Manichean Heresy?) as a special place to let down our hair - those of us who still have any - and wallow in bad manners.

I don't support outright banning of anyone - in case my posts on OT about Lindy weren't clear. I support banishment of uncivil behavior here to Flame, and deletion of pseudoscience from the Space BBS - period.

That's probably more work than Justin has time for, especially after the start of Fall Semester - blocking certain people from posting is less work, but opens larger cans of philosophical worms. Just at the moment I wouldn't blame Justin a bit if he decided, as Al did, to drop the whole thing. Don't want him to, but would understand.
