I wanted to apologize for the Belgium bashing. Belgium is doing a good job in finding these folks and I appreciate every effort.

I was in a semi- 'grumpy' mood the other day. Not quite myself, so-to-speak. I lost that 'balance' or equilibrium I always try to maintain.

I do agree with you, racing them off to the executioner seems pointless, especially in light of the valuable information they may possess.

Also, I personally think death as a martyr is what they want. Long life imprisonment ...is against their suicidal indoctrination, and may actually deter future would be terrorists.

You and Dan are both right, the US harbors an equal number of terrorists - it is only our remote position that spares us from more of them. The US is especially bad at keeping tabs on those with expired visas, etc. The US immigration department is horribly ineffective in many ways.
