Word will copy your keystrokes into a txt file (at least it does for me -- but then that might just be in auto-recovery mode). Anyway, I’ve restored from the txt file more than once, though it does require a bit of editing.
Go to:
Tools
Options
Click the Save tab
You should find the AutoRecovery option. You can set it up to backup your Word document. If you lose power or run into an illegal operation that kills Word, when you restart the application your document will be restored -- up to the last time it was updated.
