Some problems with vigilantes: they are not professional, they do not coordinate with law enforcement, they don't have all of the facts of the case.

They don't have the level of sophistication where they can take a reference to a city (Montgomery), and turn it into an ID of the perp. That's what it takes to solve crimes, not your John Wayne bluster.
