Tempting fate
I know everyone here is supposed to be super-rational and all, but I come from a family that would not buy a calendar for the new year until January 2. My dad still gets nervous when people turn to the next month.
One is not supposed to assume too much in this world.
I'm not hoping for a bloodbath, but just the same...
I'm too tired to find the quote, but this is a pretty close paraphrase of one of the many sayings of Benjamin Franklin:
"I would rather be a pessimist than an optimist. An optimist is frequently disappointed, whereas a pessimist is sometimes pleasantly surprised."
