Pet food.
The dog is free-fed the cheapest dry dog food I can buy, and he's still a bit heavy. He does get to lick out the cat food cans.
And the cat didn't get canned food (5 for $1) until the last couple of months. I know he's getting older, didn't realize he was losing teeth. Heck, I remember when he lost his "baby" teeth.
I'm not sure how they like it, but I explain I'm the one with the thumb. I've also read them a few of D. Spires posts - Life isn't fair, some of you are born with a target birthmark, and so on. They're starting to get it.
