<Maritime law must be the same all over, in order for commerce to work fairly. Pavillion law (for planes) also must be interationally recognized.
These things, and many others, were handled just fine before the United Nations came along. Treaties were signed, agreements were made, constitutions were written, borders set, and other things accomplished. And these things were done hundreds, if not thousands of years before the U.N. was founded.
Assuming the U.N. is a requirement for any form of international cooperation is ridiculous.
I get the same thing when I discuss reducing Federal power in the United States. People assume the only alternative to an all-powerful central state is chaos, and that cooperation without coercion is not possible.
I admit I had not thought about the U.N. in terms of its effect on international dating. I have not noted much help from those quarters where citizens have been kidnapped from one parent by another.
