Minimum wage

Thanks, but I'm sure most of us here do similar stuff around their communities, without blowing their horns about it. I only brought it up in my case to make a point about conservatives. I also hope you read the report I linked to.

BTW, we are feeding these guys because for this month, they are living at the church. For more on the program, see here.

Raise the minimum wage so we don't have to supply charity? I suppose it's typical that the first thing that occurs to many liberals is figuring out a way to make someone else pay the freight, and that's what the minimum wage is all about. Stick it to those businessmen...they're all greedy crooks anyway, right?

The minimum wage is an economic farce, designed primarily to protect unions against competition and give politicians something they can brag about doing for the poor. If it worked as advertised, we could eliminate poverty by raising the wage to $100 and hour and being done with it.

Business is not infinitely flexible in regards to costs. A few minute's thought would show that if wages are artificially raised across the board, prices will have to follow, and bingo, right back where we started. Either that, or employment would need to be cut back. Studies suggest that every 10 percent rise in the minimum wage costs about 100,000 jobs.

For those who actually want some facts, try here.

Damn few low end employees actually work for minimum wage anyway. Burger flippers start at $8.25 an hour, plus benefits.
