Is it easier for you to understand the way I think when you know I grew up in New York in the 1950s and '60s?
Why do you equate growing up in Alabama in the 1950s and early 1960s with being a racist or a redneck? Why do you think I would?
That wasn't what I meant at all. Your conclusion says more about the way you're thinking right now than about any conclusions I have drawn about Larry or Alabama.
Mr. Lott, on the other hand, has drawn the same conclusion about segregation (he's for it) numerous times over a period of years, and not at tea at his grandmother's house but in public. If the Republicans want to distance themselves from that practice by distancing themselves from one of its supporters, well, good for them.
You can defend Trent Lott if you want to. You aren't going to use me to do it.
