Nice try but it doesn't match history

Democrats in the South enacted the Jim Crow legislation. It was Democrats who passed the legislation raising the Confederate flag over government buildings and incorporating the flag into the state flag designs.

While Wallace ran as an independent in 1968 and 1972, he remained a Democrat his whole life. In the 1980s, he changed his views on race somewhat and won election with a significant percentage of the black vote.

It was Democrats like Lester Maddox who worked against civil rights for blacks.
It was Democrats like Bull Connor of Birmingham who turned the firehoses and police dogs against civil rights protestors.

When Strom Thurman was a Dixiecrat segregationist, he was a Democrat. He did switch to the Republican party later on, but by then he'd changed his tone. For example, he was one of the few members of Congress to send his children to the integrated DC schools (his first child was born when he was about 68).

The only known member of Congress that was a member of the KKK is Democrat Rob Byrd of West Virginia. Why does he get off with his past?

When the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was before Congress, more Republicans voted for it than Democrats. Gore's father voted against the legislation, as did Clinton's mentor Fullbright. Funny how they're given a pass.

The history of the Democrat party in the South is one of bigotry and corruption. I grew up with that nonsense and refuse to have anything to do with it.
