One component of the political process is the figure-head leader gets either the blame or praise for events. Always has been and always will be the case. Harry Truman summed it up with his desk sign, "The Buck Stops Here."
One of the possible "good" consequences of this war is that it should be an aid in future political negotiations. In that, now, the US has a demonstrable tool of coercion to use in their dealings.
Because of Nixon's declaration of "peace" and withdrawl in Viet Nam, the US has been perceived as a paper tiger in many quarters. The Gulf war was seen as a multi-national effort and the US role was minimalized. This war clearly demonstrates the technical superiority of the US military.
Hopefully, this muscle flexing can be used to show the futility of confrontation and create a pathway for political solutions to problems to avoid the wrath of Bush.
I guess I just like to view the glass as half full instead of half-empty.
