...that if you could get beyond binary perceptions of "either pacifist or warmonger" you might find a third way to solve problems like Saddam Hussein.
I assert as part of my thesis that use of moral arithmetic only reinforces binary perceptions. If you conceive of only two courses of action, then moral arithmetic only helps choose between those two. It's of no help determining whether there's another way that's even better, or of finding it if it exists.
