REB: So we should have just let Saddam keep killing his people? Turn a blind eye? Stick our head in the sand? Pretend its not happening?
Why not? That's what most people do all the time about tragedies in other parts of the world.
Over 3 million people have died as a result of civil war in the Congo in just the last few years. Who is rushing in to stop that? Belgium, I think, has tried, but that's about it.
24,000 children die EVERY SINGLE DAY from starvation or related illnesses. How many people or governments go to heroic lengths to stop it? $75 billion would save huge numbers of them.
I'm not saying it isn't a good thing that the people of Iraq no longer have Saddam oppressing and killing them, but I think it's hypocritical in the extreme to use that as a major justification for the invasion.
