If you want to talk about staying out of wars as benevolent, it's hard to beat the Swiss. If you want to talk about per capita expenditure on charity, we are not even in the running. If you want to talk about emphasis on education of our citizen's children, care for our elderly, numbers of homeless, poor, sick... well you get the idea. If you want to talk about the number of corrupt third-world dictatorships supported... Good grief! [freely admitting that the USSR was worse than us in this regard - faint praise!]
Hey, I admit you can do a whole lot worse than the USA. And I am rightfully proud of some of our efforts. But sometimes, we just don't get it, and end up blowing our reputation to pieces.

Depends how you define "benevolent" and how you define "world power"
