I've never had a power supply go out on me before, so I'm wondering if anybody knows how to determine if a powersupply is dead.
I have a pentium II 450. (Quit laughing it happens to be my fastest computer at home) I was trying to set it up a few months ago, but while i was working on it everything just quit working. I was scared I fried something, but ran out of time. Nothing would happen when I hit the on switch.
Last night i decided to drag it out and have another go at it. What to my surprise, it worked fine. So I went to work and installed win98 got through all the reboots just fine. Then after the OS was working, I loaded up the video card driver. That required another reboot. Problem is, it shut down just fine and then died. I hit the reset switch, nothing. Same for the power switch. Tried all kinds of different things. nothing. Once I saw the power supply fan turn for a couple of seconds and then stop. So I am pretty sure its the power supply. There is no electrical smoke smell coming from it. The computer barely had anything in it, so I'm sure it wasn't overloaded or over-tasked. There was hardly any dust in the machine.
Does anybody have any idea, what could be wrong with it, or should I just buy another one?
