Stupid and insulting answer
I did lots of swapping around of stuff to be sure it wasn't anything simple like that. The monitor was getting power while plugged into the same powerstrip. I even plugged it into different outlets on the powerstrip.
I thought it might even be the buttons, so I pulled the front cover off and pushed the buttons on the inside. I suppose it could be a short in the bundle of wires from the buttons to the MB, but my bet is it will turn out being the power supply. Won't know for sure till I start monkeying with it
