Back when I worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corp (I'm a terrible name-dropper), I watched a technician--a good one, too--spend perhaps half-an-hour fiddling with a dead audio console before snugging the cord into the wall socket. He turned all manner of red when the thing suddenly sprang to life.
