Capacitors
I taught electronics at a community college a few years ago, and in the lab on power supplies, despite many warnings about capacitor polarity, every term someone would put the cap in backwards. After a few minutes - POW! Luckily nobody ever got debris in the eye, but there were sometimes shredded capacitor innards drifting all over the lab.
