One arguement I have seen for not finding any fragments in the area is that they were vaporized by the heat fo the explosion. If there was that much heat, wouldn't it also incinerate anything in the area?
I just think that alternative explanations (other than UFOs and such) should be examined, and there is lots of evidence that tectonic activity can produce unusual energy effects (do a search for earthquake lights). It's worth thinking about.
