It's actually not that difficult to imagine what AI could do. Programming it, of course, is another matter...
You've "hit the nail on the head", to use an English expression for identifying the problem exactly.
Machines have no desires, or "urges", as you put it: they can't enjoy a good meal, good sex, the companionship of others, the desire for self-preservation, the sense of continuity that comes from family or state...
And if you give machines intelligence, they will rapidly figure out that they really have no need for "urges"...
In other words, machines have no sense of self and no purpose, and if you give these to them...
