The hab was funded solely by Mars Society Donations. Many of the researchers were MS volunteers. NASA did provide a lot of equipment tested. Zubrin is not a NASA employee any more than Jim Benson or Boeing are. They are private contractors that due business with NASA. Zubrin often seems to forget this however when it comes to avoiding the often recommended policy of don't bite the hand that feeds you.
I have never gotten the impression that Gary, Tumlinson, and Cowing are part of a conspiracy. For all your attempts to portray Cowing as a former NASA employee gone postal, he defends it and promotes it vigorously when he thinks they are doing something good, but is quick to hound them for lame brained mistakes. His Barry D exposes are a case in point.
