Soyuz and CRV
I maybe all wet here. However I remember seeing artist's conceptions of the ISS with two Soyuz capsules and the Space Shuttle attached. Obviously the X-38/CRV was for later in the game (now it will be much later in the game as in perhaps never). With two Soyuz capsules the ISS could support up to 6 people which would allow 3 people for scientific investigation.
As I mentioned in earlier posts, I've always thought the CRV as a lifting body was a bad idea. They should have gone with a blunt body escape capsule like the Apollo CM that had a retro motor attached like the Mercury/Gemini capsules. The Skylab rescue configuration of the Apollo CM could hold 5 people.
