Re: Stop the rhetoric, please!

"Of course, there are environmentalist wackos. Wackos can and do emerge under the guise of *any* philosophy, but I've had the displeasure of engaging, quite personally, with many such "environmentlists". And I can tell you this: they do not have an agenda that is ANYTHING like you describe. What you describe is an utter farce, really -- do you honestly think they're devil-horned creatures, willfully hellbent on destroying everything that's good (civilization) and promoting everything that's bad (socialism)? If so, you've been taking B-movie villians WAY too seriously. *Nobody* is motivated by "goals" like that. Nobody."

Hi, Nathan.
I think you are right about this, Tom has mislabeled these folks. From my experience they generally don't have enough thought process to hold any particular political philosophy- if some of them happenned to have given it some thought then they would tend to believe in anarchy. Now, I suppose it's possible that they could be attracted to socialism simply because of the pleasing sounds it emitted. But social order and humans doing good things is not anything edible to an environmental wacko- unless the human society happen to be Indians or some other romantic fantasy.

Maybe Tom meant a environmental dingbat- lots of socialists fit in this catagory. Of course if a dingbat had too much coffee, it might look like a wacko.
