Re: Is it really moving, or just looking like it?

Do you guys ever get really good views of the Northern Lights. The kind that make the entire snowcovered hills change from red to green to purple and so bright that you don't need artificial light to move about? I do. You would swear the aurora borealis was moving. It is just the electical charges moving through the media. The media is standing still, but it looks like it is moving at 3 or 4 hundred times the speed of sound.

While the tail appears to be moving, it could be that the media in which the effect is moving is very stable. It could be you are just watching the passage of an electical current. Kind of like a bolt of lightning but in space. A bolt of lightning appears to move very fast. But there is really nothing moving. It is just the passage of electical current through a media.

Don't get defensive, I just want you to think about the possibility.
