Kind of like the Ion tail. At 10 million kilometers long, even if the media in which the Ion tail propogates is flying off the coma at the speed of light, it should appear curved. It takes time, even at the speed of light to go 10 million kilometers, thus we must believe that the media in which the Ions are being created is moving at a speed sufficient to preclude a visible arc. Maybe 10 times the speed of light would do it. But I can't fathom that any better than I can believe in solar wind acceleration, or drag on the dust particles ejected from the comet.
