I would REALLY like to know whether there is proof of life on Mars before I depart this realm. And I don't know why I want so much to know.
Then I'd like to know how similar the DNA is to that of Earth. I doubt if the DNA would be intact enough to tell, though.
I would bet there used to be some life there, a little, for a period. And the DNA would be similar to that of the very earliest life here, suggesting a common origin. Panspermia will look more plausible, but not proven. Cross-seeding would still be a possiblity. An uneducated guess.
The history of human discovery has been that the Universe is much bigger and much smaller than we intuitively expect.
