"Reread comments on go slow job security approach. I didn't say NASA wasn't
considering a go slow waste of time and money approach."
I didn't say, you didn't say.
The point is rather simple, any idea which starts off with NASA just needs to build a bigger & better space launcher, isn't going anywhere. NASA shouldn't be in the business of building and operating launch vehicles anymore than the Dept of Transportation should be building operating taxies.
NASA's job is space exploration. The reason NASA explores space is because there's a very good chance that *something* will be found that will be of enough significant to the citizens of our nation, that it's worth allocating tax dollars at the present time.
To degree in which there will be commerical activity (and the degree of the proximity to the present) in the space environment, is the degree of how much NASA is "worth". Without the potential of commericalizing space, NASA (& space exploration in general) is of little value- maybe, at most a few billion per year.
NASA should be concerned with increasing it value to it's citizens.
