Anyone who's read some of my posts knows full well that I'm certainly not a scientist or an engineer.
I'm just a memeber of that tiny minority, a rank-n-file joe who thinks a return to the moon would be a very worthwhile investment.
I'd love to see people walking around on Mars, but the distances involved scare the pants off me. Mars, at present, feels like a serious temptation of fate. I find the moon's "been there, done that" factor rather comforting...having people live and work there for 5 or maybe even 10 years prior to a Mars mission would [probably] keep me from biting my nails down to the knuckes.
I think it was Raoul (and perhaps others) who raised the point some time ago that technology isn't the only variable...human psychology may also be a determining factor. Wouldn't it be prudent to get a better handle on these things in our own backyard before rocketing people off into the void?
Just some thoughts...
