Chlorine is the atom that causes all the problem.

First Freon breaks down; CF2Cl2 + hv -> CF2Cl + Cl (I believe solar energy causes this)
Then the loose chlorine atom reacts to the ozone (O3) molecule and changes it into ClO and O2; Cl + )3 -> Cl0 + O2.

So the loose chlorine atom from the freon destroys the Ozone molecule. That is why I thought he had a valid argument.
