Your figures, once again, fail to take into account the increase in the size of the GDP. I'm not sure exactly what the size of the US economy was in 1974 but I'm sure it is safe to say that it was much less than half the size it is today. Thus if government spending is double in constant dollars today verses 1974, then spending has DECLINED as a percentage of the GDP. I find it interesting you continue to ignore this point but it is something that you should find encouraging and not try to pretend it is irrelevent. I certainly find it a positive.
And while you like to moan and point fingers at Democrats you fail to take into account that pork spending by the Republican controlled congress over the last 6 years has increased almost 300%. This despite the tough budget deal that Democratic President Clinton signed and stuck to which brought our nation from a $300B annual deficit to a $300B annual surplus.
