I agree on the alternative energy sources and nothing would do more for Bush stature than going into the face of perceived oil interests to make us independent of Gulf oil.

However, the irony is, when we commit to this course we will be demonized by "friends" and enemies for making economic war on the third world.

IMO there is a tendency to believe that anything that helps the USA is an affront to the rest of the world. See NMD.
