Re: As promised:

My thoughts on women in the military are this:
1) hold them up to the same physical standards
2) the military is not about being pretty, if they wanna go, shave all their hair off in bootcamp like they do the guys.
3) if they are rugged enough to send in front of a machine gun nest, they are rugged enough to draft.

elaborating:

In every PFT and AFPT I've seen the women are given slacker treatment (they are also given slacker bootcamp). for example lets look at the Jump school: (taken from: http://www-benning.army.mil/usmc/webpageairborne.htm)

APFT consists of the following three events:
a. Pushups min 42 male/ 19 female
b. Situps min 53 male/ 53 female
c. 2 mile run min 15:54 male/ 18:54 female

-obviously no one is considering the endurance argument since they are not expected to run as much. However I don't think that would be the right approach anyway. Physical fitness standards should be set to the point of "what are ok goals for men and what are ok goals for women?" they should be set to "what do we want a soldier to be able to do? how much arm pushing strength do they need? should they be able to pull up their own bodyweight? how fast/far do we need them to run?"

well if the women are better at running, they will find that part easy on the PFT, if the men are better at upperbody strength, good for them, they'll find that part easier.

as for grooming, ok they aren't 'fragil things', why not treat them the same in bootcamp and cut their hair just as short? we can't have it getting caught in things or giving something good for the enemy to grab a hold of in an engagement.

Feminists would be nuts to push for true equal rights for women. If you classify women as 'rugged' and 'worthy' of combat duty, then they must be rugged and eligible for the draft right? Come on, these people can't push for the right to enter combat and try to get away from the responsibility of being a combat worthy individual (draftable). Regardless what you think go the draft, whether its right or not, with the right comes the responsibility.

I really wonder how the feminist organizations would react to trying to open up women for the draft "no . . No WAIT!!! We don't want to be THAT equal!!!!" that would be a site to see them pushing to not be treated equal. . . . but it would earn my respect to see them embrace that type of legislation.

However. . . all this aside, when it comes down to it, when war enters into the equation all goodies and rights the civilized world creates for us at home have to contend with anarchy and the rules of nature. We have to contend with reality, and that is that men and women are made by nature to be different, and that nature give men some brain chemicals that cause them to do stupid things when women are around. Since women play a more valuable role in reproduction, they are more valuable to the human species, and thus, males of the human species have evolved to take unneccessesary and stupid risks on their behalf. A natural urge to compete and outdo each other enters in. Human dymanics such as this are best not dealt with when the stakes are so high.
