Night Witches

G'morning

I hope we can revisit these themes from time to time, since they are of particular interest to me, and I suspect to at least a few others here, as well.

There was no shortage of heroism and sacrifice on the Eastern Front in WWII. Most Americans remain only dimly aware of the fact that as many as 30 million Russians may have perished in the struggle against the Nazis.

One of the most stirring chapters of the tale of the Eastern Front recounts the actions of three regiments of female Russian pilots and their obsolete, clunky biplane "bombers," who soon earned the apellation Nach Hexen from the Germans whom they visited on their nightly raids.

As you point out, women have skills which can be applied to warfare and the heroic actions of the Night Witches would appear to confirm your opinion here, but the snag remains:

Most men do not want to see "their" women in combat.

Tom, above, recounts some of the male objections to lady warriors, and I see no reason why we cannot continue to discuss this issue and others which are related - Feminism, equal opportunity, and Women's Studies, but I for one, at least, intend to keep football out of it, pending formation the NWFL.
