We can't shove a democracy down their throat Greg. Sure I would like to see a democracy there and I certainly don't want to see some tinhorn installed. That is probably why we are not helping the N.A. more.
Based on what I have read about Afghanistan the government they would probably prefer is a council of clerics and tribal leaders. None of the leaders would necessarily be chosen by free election.
