Arafat is no leader of the masses. He is a noted negotiator, nothing more. Most Palestinians easily recognize this fact, and allow him his power-plays only so long as he is useful in the reacquisition of the lands currently held by Israel -- likely all of them.
The Palestinian will listen only to:
* Arafat's call for a campaign of Israeli bloodletting
* Arafat's forceful demand for a demilitarized Israel and the forfeiture of all Israeli holdings
Attacking Israel right-out ends with more Palestinian lives lost than Israeli, not to mention the loss of a semi-functioning (not quite straight in the head, but still a useful contributor to the mayhem) walking, talking time-bomb.
Demilitarization and eventual forfeiture for Israel results in failure to control the Holy Lands, which were promised to them by G-d -- and that simply cannot be -- though the exact same holds true for Palestine.
There is no middle ground here. There is only opposition, prejudice, and hate. The Holy War (oxymoronism at its finest) idiocy shall, and must, continue.
