Most of it only fired a single iron ball, although some pieces might've been able to fire grapeshot. The artillery was crudely aimed and slow to reload. It was good against ships and some fortifications but would not have been very effective against massed troops. Contrast that to Samurai archers who were deadly accurate even from horseback and could fire several shots per minute and you'd probably have a Spanish bloodbath. Having tens of thousands of Samurai swarm down on your position would make for a very bad day.
From a historical perspective, I wonder how the Samurai would've compared to the Spartans. Both were warrior cultures, although the Samerai tended to have better weapons. However, that is an apples and oranges comparison because the Spartans came so much sooner than the Samurai.
