The PA can't stop Hamas, while a UN force could. But a UN force would also prevent further settlements by Israel in the occupied lands, and that's why it is so bitterly opposed by some.

Bush Jr's great statement today has bought him a little wiggle room, but I doubt if it is going to stop the request by the rest of the world for a UN deployment.

This request is taking on the character of a demand, as the leaders of nearly all other nations are tired of this conflict impacting their countries security and economies and causing world wide instability.
