This is a situation I tend to get emotional about. I know in the long run we will sell out the Israelis just as we will sell out Taiwan.
The right wing concept of enlightened self-interest outweighs moral integrity.
You are attempting to be objective and fair when you say, >" There is NO guarantee of that land to the Jews."
Actually there was, and not in the Bible, it was the Balfour agreement and the agreement of the United Nations. And as a further cementing of legitimacy long honored in Western Civilization, the Israelis kicked the shit out of the Arabs that attacked them as soon as the Brits left them to their own devices in 1947.
At that time the Israelis were not armed well or organized but they fought with a resolve not seen in that part of the world since the Marmalukes.
Israel has earned the right to exist by combat of arms as well as by moral imperative.
It pains me as an American to sell the sellout of Israel. It pained me in 1956 to see the US sell out Hungary. I will probably pain me to watch the US sell out Taiwan.
I want to be proud of my country. Today George W. Bush made me less than proud.
