Founding Fathers

If I might repeat your original statement:

...You're the guy who KNOWS what the Founding Fathers meant by the Second Amendment

That is the only thing I was responding to, and the only thing the quotes refer to. The Founding Fathers thought that every man had an individual right to be armed.

Those who are currently trying to reinterpret the Second Amendment (as written by the Founding Fathers) to mean that only the National Guard gets to carry guns, have to explain these quotes. Sure, the Supreme Court can "interpret" the Amendment to mean anything it wants, but they can't get away with pretending that this is what our founders had in mind.

The fact that the Supreme Court has distorted the original intent of the Constitution out of recognizable shape throughout our history on many issues is not the point. There are many perfectly legal and Supreme Court approved features of our modern government that would cause most of the Founding Fathers to collapse in a fit of projectile vomiting. Obviously, as you correctly point out, this is not relevant legally. That doesn't mean that there isn't a moral and philosophical point to be made.
