No, not worse than death. It's something far, far better than life itself. All that is required is the blessing of a supposed holy leader that the endeavor will be looked upon as holy and righteous.
Do not confuse the holy martyr with the deranged suicidal. The purpose of the suicide bomber is to kill non-Islamic persons of any age, preferably Jews, with them. Should followers of Islamic law and custom die as well, they too are taken in as holy martyrs. This is a religious war, declared by holy leaders of Islam. Martyrdom is not just the right thing to do, it's the preferred thing to do, and if a martyr-to-be is captured before the suicide detonation, then the task has merely been curtailed. Martyrdom may be achieved at a later date, possibly even in prison, killing guards and/or interrogators in the event.
It is not a matter of what the unbelievers will call them. They already have a divine chair reserved at the foot of Allah for their mortal trials.
And it will go on as long as they don't see any hope for a place to live without being undermined, as long as they don't have their dignity restored.
No. It will go on so long as fanatical leaders insist that it must -- or until the fanatics are gone.
And they won't be gone,
