Christians believe they will go to heaven when they die, too.
The early Christians martyred themselves in order to get there sooner.
However, in the last thousand years, with the singular exception of the folks from San Diego who thought Jesus was in a spaceship behind a comet, I haven't seen Christians deliberately martyring themselves to get there sooner.
US troops would regularly attend religious services, confession and communion. Were absolved, blessed, and sent out. No one that I've heard of wanted to die.
The Japanese had problems finding pilots for the kamikazes. Had to volunteer them, then put them in planes which had the landing gear come away at take-off. Because life for the pilots was still bearable.
And they had all manner of religious ceremonies before the event. It was sanctioned. And most people didn't want to go.
Clearly, life here has to be unbearable before most folks are willing to go. Been a trait for a long, long time. Even if they think they're going to heaven. Survival seems to be a human quality. Palestinians are human. Shouldn't have to say that.
