Well, giving people unorganized data is a classic way to avoid

If the people who should be protecting America don't want oversight, something is greviously wrong.

No effective oversight has resulted in what some of their own says is complacency which led to an attack on America.

How many people care to do their jobs if no one is looking? Clearly not some people in the government.

Another objection is that if there's oversight, secrets might leak.

What secrets are left?

Aldrich Ames gave 'em everything the Russians had (and he was right out there for the catching).

Robert Hanssen gave the Russians everything the FBI had.

With no oversight, secrets DID leak. Lots and lots of them. People died. Can't help but think that a but of oversight, someone motivating them to do their jobs, isn't going to leak more.

And WTC was organized in plain sight. Right out there in the open. No need to break into the US counter-intelligence operations to put that together.

What harm could a little accountability do?

Handing an investigating committee, or person, a mass of uncorrelated data is a classic way to avoid anyone finding out what happened.

Anyone impeding this, or any other credible investigation, should be prosecuted. That includes anyone who tries to confuse that investigation. In effect those people would be helping set up the next attack.

What's the harm in knowing? Beyond me.
