Re: The source of this story is a Cuban state newspaper.

Just because it originates in a Commie paper doesn't mean it has to be a lie. In fact, if it were true, that's exactly what you would expect a Commie paper to go way out of its way to report.

And if its true, it sure as hell isn't likely to turn up in the National Review or Fox News.

The fact that a wealthy American buys land in a foreign country is hardly newsworthy. But taken in context, with the background and personalities involved, and interpreted through an ideological filter, it might mean something quite profound. And the Cubans, although certainly ideological and propagandistic, are not likely to lie about reporting what can be easily verified or debunked.

I listen to Cuban radio all the time, and it's facts are dead accurate. I've never caught them in a lie. Of course, it is State Propaganda and you have to make allowances. It is definitely highly selective, and the reports are emphasized or even queued up in an order to make their propaganda points by contrast and comparison, or emphasis and contradiction. But that don't mean it ain't true. I think you call it cherry-picking.

Sorry TB, but just yelling "Commie, Commie" isn't enough any more.
