We do too.

By leaking information it gets much more press coverage then when we hold a normal press news conference. It also is designed to make Saddam make a careless or panicked move and redeploy his forces to where he feels they will be needed - so we can observe the move with our watchful eyes-in-the-sky.

Imagine the game stratego - where you put a row of bombs around nothing valuable - but they then assume your flag is there. It can serve as a decoy. Revealing one small airfield might serve much the same purpose. But the bottomline is it keeps them guessing.

The "leak" concept is not new - but is exploited against our overseas adversaries with greater frequency in the Bush administration. Disinformation is mandatory - because in this part of the world deploying large numbers of forces can't be done stealthily and Saddam has eyes and ears in all these middle eastern regions as well.

Yes, though they are almost never mentioned - Iraq has the equivalent of a "CIA" working to gather information around the middle east and to a lesser degree the whole world.

So if these folks report one area of deployment - you leak another area - and play musical chairs with craft for awhile so these agents can't tell where the main forces are located and what type of attack to expect.

So you might fly B52s into one airfield - just to make it look like serious bombing were going to occur in a region, etc...

There is much more going on here than meets the eye at first - much more.
