Yes, there has been a substantial disinformation campaign waged against Vreeland and his story, including an apparently fake death certificate which appeared on the web recently, but somehow, I think I'll go with ex-LA narco cop Mike Ruppelt's take on this saga.

Ruppelt's a genuine straight arrow with about 100x more credibility than Vreeland's detractors.
