<How many other choices in our lives do we rely on a "consensus of professionals" to decide for us? Not too many, I hope.
Let's see: medical choices, accounting choices, banking choices, architectural choices, engineering choices...
The list goes on and on.
Chefs don't design bridges. Doctors don't plan military campaigns. Cabdrivers infrequently deliver babies.
But somehow, teachers are stupid.
I have to go -- severe thunderstorm in 10.
Not all parents are stupid. Not all parents are responsible, either. Look around. How many people on this board criticized the woman on the videotape "disciplining" her 4-year-old? I could tell you stories about parents "helping" with homework that would curl your hair. All I want is the ghost of a chance that children will have exposure to big ideas.
