A tremendous insight into psychology

Using that logic:

-the Republicans who deride Democrats for corruption the most do so because they themselves are the most corrupt of all.

-those who oppose abortion with great fervor do so because they themselves want to kill their children.

-homophobes are gay.

-the more frequently one goes to church, the weaker one's faith is.

I'm sure there are other examples!

I recall hearing a speaker on the effects of violence on people several years ago. (Unhappily I can't cite the name, though it was a lecture broadcast on my local public radio station. The gentleman was from India, I believe.) He postulated that people who suffer great violence will often internalize the violence done to them and make it a part of their character. In the case of nations or groups, this can also happen.

The playground bully often behaves as he is treated by adults at home. Nations and groups exposed to constant violence or persecution can exhibit the same behaviors. These are learned responses to imposed pathologies, not outward expressions of inner pathologies.

This is why the Marshall Plan model worked better than the model of the Versailles Treaty. This is why non-violence got India its independence and black Americans equal access to public facilities.

Responding with continued violence will only beget more violence. Violence is only a just response during an acute crisis when someone must defend a victim (themselves included) and make an attack stop.
