LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A controversial Madonna music video, condemned as blasphemous when it first aired, ranks as the second-greatest video of all time, according to a new list compiled by music
cable network VH1.
The 1989 clip ``Like A Prayer'' featured the scantily clad singer cavorting
in front of burning crosses, suffering Jesus-like wounds on her hands and
kissing a saintly statue that turned into a black man.
Religious groups were appalled and threatened to boycott soft-drinks giant
Pepsi, which ran a similarly themed commercial as part of a $5 million
sponsorship deal with Madonna. Pepsi quickly cut its ties with Madonna…and as the single soared to number one, Madonna thanked them for the controversy.
More power to her.
